Communications Design

Communication that enlivens.

We all know that when talking about the public health or climate crisis, scientific facts are important. But facts don’t enchant people. Even though climate change and biodiversity loss are all around and within us, facts are intangible. They fail to move culture.

Art and stories, on the other hand, work with energy. They are filled with feeling. They are relatable and alive. Our brains process visuals 60,000 times faster than text. Why? Because visuals aren’t processed linearly like words are, and perception is much older than the written word. Visuals are vehicles for diverse meaning-making and leave space for nuance and interpretation.

At Sympoiesis, we believe that in times when public discourse has become increasingly polarized and our attention hijacked, we need to tap into the power of storytelling that is able to hold a larger conversation.

We tell stories that enliven people’s imagination while empowering them to take meaningful action in the places that matter to them.

If this resonates with you, let’s work together on what is meaningful.

Our Regenerative Communication Principles

  • Honoring Attention

Our attention is not limitless. To pay attention is a moral act. Our presence is what allows something to grow.

How can we communicate with a wiser use of energy and resources? By honoring attention, we create greater coherence between our inner world and outer world, leading to greater clarity and radiance in our communications. Learning to speak from a place of mindfulness while being conscious of the context and ecosystem can enable us to see where communication is actually needed.

  • Nesting in Place and Community

Place is the level at which transformation becomes tangible. It’s within place that our contributions become visible. Regenerative communications seek to reconnect people to a sense of place and encourage them to become active participants in expressing the unique potential of their places.

  • Attuning to natural rhythms

Attuning our communication cycles and rhythms to nature enables us to design for break-throughs. Rather than controlling, canalising and killing creativity, regenerative communicators free and welcome the natural and playful flow in our conversations, creations, workshops etc. This involves time for reflecting, resting, and digesting information.
